About 18 months ago, friends of ours were married. When I heard that he had popped the question, I secretly wished that she would ask me to shoot their wedding. She’s beautiful, and I knew that their wedding would be one to remember. I waited, and waited, and waited for her to ask…

…she didn’t.

My beautiful and sweet friend hired one of Orange County’s most rad Hubby/Wife wedding photography duos. That experience put a lot of things in perspective for me. At the time, I was alone in my business and couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t booking the types of weddings (or even the amount of weddings) that I wanted to. I was doing all of the right things. I poured my heart into every shoot, every wedding that I did have. Looking back, I now know that I was directionless. I now know that Katie McGihon Photography was a stepping stone, and that I was never meant to go further into this business, alone. I also know that my children were not ready for their Mommy to work full time. While it took me a year and a half to figure all of this out, HE knew all along. My God had a plan for me. A bigger, better, and more beautiful plan than I ever could have imagined.

This past weekend, Scott and I photographed back to back weddings. 32 hours…..19 of them spent shooting. Beautiful weddings with beautiful couples, and two beautiful children at home, well adjusted and happy with Miss Ashley for two days.  18 months ago, those two beautiful children at home without Mommy and Daddy for two days would have been a nightmare. So often I rush to make things happen. I ache for growth and opportunity. I was raised to push harder, reach higher, and never settle. I now know that He’s got me…and I don’t have to wonder….worry…or doubt.

A sweet guest offered to photograph us during hour number 19 of shooting that weekend. I’m so thankful to be in this place….with my Husband by my side. Who would have thought?!
