I’ve been waiting seven months to write this blog post. For seven months, I’ve been anticipating what it would be like, how I would feel, how it would affect the way I shoot. In February, I attended WPPI in Las Vegas. As I sat in a dark ballroom listening to my favorite photographer speak, crying as I viewed her work, absorbing every last detail and writing as quickly as my hands could manage, I knew I was being changed. I sat in the dark, alone amongst a sea of people, knowing that things were different. How can one have such an epiphany, and go on with life, as if things were the same?
I’ve wanted to shoot film for quite some time.I’ve dabbled in it, but never fully let myself explore. I’ve wondered why the best photographers in the world are still using it, wondered why they choose to make things difficult on themselves. Digital photography is easy, fixable. It’s immediately viewable, and only semi permanent. Digital photographs come out of your camera as numbers, rendered as colors, to make an image. Film is different. It’s a chemical reaction to light.
LIGHT.
A moment, being engrained into a slide….no numbers….no computers…..just light.
I love the beautiful and nostalgic grain that a high ISO film has to offer. We’re posting iamges from this session without editing. They are bright, warm, honest, colorful, true-to-the-moment photographs. I’ve fallen head over heels in love with film, and I’ll never look back.
We’d like to thank Amy and Britni for being our beautiful and patient models. We’re also fortunate enough to have had this session documented for us by Britni Stein. We photographed her, she filmed us….it was film heaven. {This is the first of many “behind the scenes” films for Max And Poppy, you can find it on our Facebook page in a bit!} The girls were made beautiful by Kameron Collins of PINNED.
I can’t wait to do this again….and again….and again!

LOVE! Isn’t film just the most magical thing ever…..I’ve been throwing it into my weddings for the past year and haven’t regretted a thing. Clients are going crazy over it because it is so simple and gorgeous…….it’s amazing how much it changes the way you see things eh? 🙂 These are great images!!! 🙂
What a radiant bride… I love her smile!!! Beautifully captured, I love how the emotion comes through so vividly.
Absolutely gorgeous! You are so talented, my friend.
