Dear Poppy,
You’ve been waiting a long time for this, haven’t you? My first blog post. There are things that make people nervous, like public speaking. Well for me, it’s writing this post. Blogging is permanent. It is out there for the world to see. The last thing I want to have happen is to drive people away from our website. Plus the fact that you are such a wonderful writer isn’t making it any easier on me. But this is what I WANT to do. I just need some help from my friends,
Movie quotes.
So here I go. “Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night.” (All About Eve)
This is our life for the next unknown months. We need to get our kids here, get the girls there, build a room, cook another meal, do more laundry, teach 240 students, grow a business, set up visitations, get the kids to the dentist. Does everyone have their costumes? Did you take a shower? Is your homework finished? When is the next visitation? Whose coming over tomorrow and at what time? I have appointments with all of the kids teachers. Do we have a babysitter for a 60 minute consultation? Why is this on the floor? Wash your dishes, etc. I’ll admit it…I’m exhausted…and you’re last on my list.
“I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!” (Network)
I asked you to go on a date with me this weekend and you said we can’t. We were hosting a birthday party at our home. Like we should be hosting large gatherings at our house. Lately, this would make me upset, and I would quickly give up the idea of a lovely dinner out with you. ‘It’s not my fault’, I would think. I asked you out and YOU said NO. But I’m not going to do that anymore. I’m not going to put you on the bottom of the list for that. I’m going to keep trying to find a day that we CAN be together. I’m not asking you to change the situation we are in. We are in this together and I’m going to appreciate all the wonderful things you continue to do for me and our growing family on a daily basis.
“I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse.” (The Godfather)
Ok, so you’re not a ‘him’ or a ‘he’ But I’m going to make it so you can’t say no to me. Heck, I know that you don’t want to say no, ever. We’ll have our wonderful night out, and then we’ll have another, and another. We’ll have moments, looks, glances, smiles, just like we use to when everything was new, anxious, and exciting. I want other women to see you in public and think,
“I’ll have what she’s having.” (When Harry Met Sally)
Max loves Poppy with all his heart, body, soul and mind. I look forward to each day and how we are going to deal with all the things God has put in front of us. He’s chosen us for a reason. I don’t even have to know the reason. The things we’ve witnessed and the people who felt called to help us during this time have been such a blessing in our lives and the lives of our family. I wouldn’t change a thing, with the exception of moving you in your rightful place; high upon my list.
“Here’s looking at you kid.” (Casablanca)
With all my heart…MAX
